On the afternoon of September 25, 2015, CUPL Vice President Ma Huaide was invited to attend the second “Open Day” held by Confucius Institute (CI) Headquarters (Hanban) on behalf of CUPL. The theme of this event was “Cultural Exchanges and World Peace”. Nearly 500 guests gathered for various activities, including diplomats from 38 countries, representatives from Chinese partner schools of overseas CIs and some foreign students who are furthering their studies in China with the aid of CI scholarships. The opening ceremony was hosted by Mdm. Xu Lin, Director General of Hanban and Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters.
After the opening ceremony, CUPL Vice President Ma Huaide held talks with Mdm. Xu Lin. He voiced deep appreciation for the great support Mdm. Xu had given for the smooth running of CUPL overseas CIs. Mdm. Xu spoke highly of the achievements those Institutes had made and expressed her wish that they could become better with each passing day.
Reportedly since 2004, 495 Confucius Institutes and 1000 Confucius Classrooms have been established in 134 countries around the world. The Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) held the first “Open Day” event at the 10th anniversary in 2014 to mark the founding of the first Confucius Institute. The 2015 “Open Day” included a variety of colorful cultural activities such as: ambassador forums, lectures on literature & art, dramas, free consultations and services given by celebrated masters of traditional Chinese medicine and a “Eulogiesof the Peace” Party for international students.
