On the afternoon of August 27, 2015, “China Open Day” was held in the Embassy of China in Barbados. The site rang with cheers and laughter. The Confucius Institute (CI) at Barbados prepared a variety of colorful programs for more than 30 primary and secondary school students from Unique Helping Hand Summer Camp.
Part 1 Chinese Culture Show
The screening of a short film on China served as the prelude of the "China Open Day" event. After the volunteers of that CI answered dozens of questions raised by curious students, a volunteer called Zhang Qi taught the students to pronounce simple Chinese words like “Ni Hao” (hello) and “Xie Xie” (thank you). Another volunteer Shi Yuchen gracefully played the Cucurbit Flute (Hulusi) and sang a Chinese folk song for the young audience. The song was followed by Chinese culture activities, which not only demonstrated the unique charm of traditional calligraphy writing and paper-cutting art, but also showcased Chinese martialarts performed by the “Gentleman Kung Fu Team” of the CI. The students were mesmerized by the magnificent and profound movements of Chinese Kung Fu. They then practiced on and on under the guidance of the Team members, hoping to become “Kung Fu Masters”.
Part 2 The Chinese Ambassador, Teachers and Students Took Group Photo
Although three hours fleeted away and the activity was drawing to a close, the students were still in the best of spirits and couldn’t get enough. Ambassador Wang Ke thanked the students for their support and love for Chinese culture, and invited them to participate in the upcoming series of Chinese culture activities jointly sponsored by the Embassy and the CI. He also took a group photo with the teachers and students to mark this special occasion.
