On April 8, 2015, the Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest (CI at UB) attended the “Asian Culture Day” hosted by Universitatea Romano-Americana.
On that day, teachers from CI at UB wore traditional Chinese cheongsam and Tang-suit. Like a galaxy of movie stars, they attracted a lot of attention on the venue.
Ms. Shu Dangyi, a volunteer teacher of CI at UB, performed a piece of Chinese classical music titled “Yv Zhou Chang Wan (Melodies from a Night Fisherman)” on guzheng. As soon as the performance ended, the audience burst into hearty rounds of applause. From time to time, spectators took to the stage, and wanted to put their hands on this Chinese musical instrument to personally experience its unique charm under the guidance of that wonderful player.
A sports team composed by two teachers from CI at UB played ping pong on the venue, which aroused great interest among the spectators, and they all showed desires to participate in that exciting contest.
In addition, teaching staff of CI at UB also performed the Chinese folk paper-cutting for their local audiences. Those lifelike and exquisite handicrafts attracted many spectators, and the majority of them were eager to practice the scissor-cut themselves.
The activity attracted more than 300 attendees. CI at UB popularized the charm of Chinese traditional culture in the local community by staging traditional Chinese costume show, classical music, paper-cutting and so on, and aroused many locals’ enthusiasm to learn more about China and its culture.
