After over two months of preparation, the Confucius Institute at Bangor University launched a four-day training program (from June 24 to June 27) on Chinese culture for a North Walsh secondary school (Lluniau Ysgol Uwchradd Bodedern). More than 60 high school students participated in the event.
The main content of the activities included: five lectures (“sketches of Chinese dynasties”,“Golden Tang Songs”, “witty remarks on historical stories” and “chats on the ForbiddenCity”) delivered by David Joyner, the Executive Director of the BU Confucius Institute; “a lecture on Chinese calligraphy”,“a bite of Chinese characters”, “how to use chopsticks skilfully” and “how Chinese people celebrate their birthdays” by Li Yan; “an introduction to facial makeup in Peking Opera”, “a display of Han &minority costumes”, “table manners in China”, “immediate & extended members of the Chinese families” by Yu Meng; “professional Peking Opera performance: General Mu Guiying takes command “”basic Chinese conversation”, “the twelve Chinese zodiac” and “a speech on Chinesefolks songs” by Jin Xi , who has been practicing Peking Opera since childhood; “learning Chinese characters for fun” , “traditional Chinese festivals” , “Chinese delicacies in a nut shell” and “a brief introduction to Chinese culture symbols” by Li Zhihui.
