The Kite Festival organized by the Confucius Institute at Bangor University (BU) attracted over 1,000 participants in 2013. Moreover, pictures of that Festival were selected as the cover image of The Confucius Institute handed out at the 2013 Global Confucius Institute Conference after several rounds of vigorous selection. The experience of that Institute on kite related activities was widely acknowledged; therefore, the Confucius Institute at University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) particularly invited Prof. Zhang Liying, the Chinese Co-Director of the Confucius Institute at BU, to lend a helping hand for its 2014 kite exhibition and the related workshop activity.
After months of preparation with meticulous care, the Chinese kite exhibition “Dancing with the Wind” was unveiled in Lancashire Museum on March 28, 2014. It was jointly sponsored by the Confucius Institute at UCLan and the Cultural Affairs Bureau in Lancashire.
Besides assisting the aforesaid kite activities, Prof. Zhang also exchanged views with the Director of the Confucius Institute at UCLan on matters like Chinese language teaching, arranging cultural activities, improvement of the operating system and features of Confucius Institute activities. Meanwhile, she expressed the hope that the two sister Institutes would strengthen their cooperation and contact in the future.
