In order to inspire the students both in the Confucius Institute and in the whole University to increase their enthusiasm for learning Chinese, the Confucius Institute at University of Bucharest (UB) launched its first “Chinese Movie Day” on February 28, 2014. The aim of the activity was “Learning Chinese by Watching Chinese Movies”. More than 20 students from the Confucius Institute and the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures at UB participated in this get-together.
Taking into consideration of the students’ Chinese level, the Confucius Institute selected the movie “Kites” to be shown at the inaugural session. Before the screening began, in order to allow the audience to follow the story on the screen more easily, the teacher of the Institute briefly introduced the plot of the movie and introducing certain issues and questions pertaining to the plot, as well as asking the students to bear these in mind as they then watched the film. Following the screening, the student audience relayed the idea that through watching movies they could personally experience Chinese culture, and that they were looking forward to the next “Chinese Movie Day”.
