On February 26, 2014, the Cultural Challenge Contest final was jointly held by the Confucius Institute at Bangor University (BU) and the International Student Support Office of that University. Powis Hall was the venue for the event and was decorated by teachers of the Confucius Institute in Chinese style.
Each team had four members: two Chinese and two foreigners. 36 students from China, Britain, Italy, Cameroon, Portugal, India, Vietnam, Malaysia and Hong Kong were divided into nine teams. These teams were then assigned the names: Orange, Yellow, Blue, Red, Pink, Green, Purple, White, and Black. The aim of this contest is to promote mutual understanding and communication among BU students on different cultures through diversified and original activities. Due to the fact that the competition was organized by the Confucius Institute, Chinese culture was highlighted with the winner being given the opportunity to personally experience Chinese culture with a trip to China. At the end of the competition the Orange team was declared the winner.
An excellent performance was also staged by the Confucius Institute during the judging interval.
Given the numbers of the participants, this competition managed to play a positive role in broadening horizons and furthering inter-cultural understanding.
