A Special Lecture on Mo Yan’s Novels Held by the Confucius Institute at UB

On the evening of February 24, 2014, a special lecture titled “Traditions and Reformations in Mo Yan’s Novels” was held by the Confucius Institute at University of Bucharest (UB). Professor Luo Mi, the foreign Co-Director of the Confucius Institute and the translator of the Romanian version of Mo Yan’s The Garlic Ballads, was the speaker. Students of the Institute, students in the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literature at University of Bucharest and Chinese literature enthusiasts attended the lecture.

At the beginning of the lecture, Doctor Paula Pascaru, who specialized in the study of Chinese contemporary literature, gave an introduction on the development of Chinese modern literature. Professor Luo Mi then expounded details on Mo Yan’s life, the background of his creative works, his unique writing style and his masterpieces. After this, Lina, the secretary of the Confucius Institute and the master degree candidate for Chinese language, and Bao Shengjie, teacher of the same Institute recited selected exemplary extracts of Mo Yan’s novel in Romanian and in Chinese respectively, bringing the lecture to a pleasant end.
