Confucius Classroom at “Elena Cuza” National College Launches
the Winter Olympics and the Chinese Spring Festival Activities
From January 31 to February 4 (local time), the Confucius Classroom at “Elena Cuza” National College in Craiova, Romania, managed by the Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest (the CI at Bucharest) co-operated by China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) and the University of Bucharest (UB), successfully held a cultural week themed “Celebrating the Spring Festival and Welcoming the Winter Olympics”. With activities such as dumpling making, writing Chinese calligraphy character of “Fu”, introduction to the Chinese Spring Festival, Beijing 2022 Q&A, and watching the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics, students at the Confucius Classroom gathered for the lively and interesting experience of the Chinese Spring Festival. Together, they also cheered for the Winter Olympians.

Confucius Classroom at Colegiul Economic A.D. Xenopol Launches
the Winter Olympics and the Chinese Spring Festival Activities
From February 4 to 10 (local time), the Confucius Classroom at Colegiul Economic A.D. Xenopol, managed by the Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest (the CI at Bucharest) co-operated by China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) and the University of Bucharest (UB), successfully held a cultural week themed “Celebrating the Spring Festival and Welcoming the Winter Olympics”. By integrating the Winter Olympics elements with the Chinese Spring Festival elements, the Chinese teachers at the Confucius Classroom explained to the students about the Winter Olympics and interesting Winter Olympics elements with Chinese characteristics. The cultural week was a combination of online and offline activities, during which the students not only learned about the Chinese Spring Festival and the Beijing Winter Olympics but also was further motivated to learn the Chinese language and culture.

CI at Barbados Launches Painting Competition Themed
“China in My Eyes” for the Beijing Winter Olympics
On February 11 (local time), the Confucius Institute at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies, Barbados (the CI at Barbados), co-operated by China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) and the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies, held an online launching ceremony for the Painting Competition themed “China in My Eyes”. The ceremony was attended by over 20 people, including David Bulbulia, Foreign Co-Director, and Li Renyan, Chinese Co-Director of the CI at Barbados, local teachers, students, and friends of the CI, and was hosted by overseas volunteer Ye Tailong. At the ceremony, volunteer Guo Xing presented a comprehensive overview of the Beijing Winter Olympics, Li Renyan briefed the participants on the rules of the painting competition, and David Bulbulia announced the start of the competition in Chinese. The ceremony ended successfully with a round of applause.

CI at Bangor Holds Promotional Activities for the Winter Olympics
The Confucius Institute at Bangor University (the CI at Bangor), co-operated by China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) and Bangor University, launched a series of Winter Olympics-themed promotional activities before and after the opening of the Beijing Winter Olympics, such as activities related to the celebration of the Spring Festival and the Winter Olympics, watching the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics, selection of excellent Winter Olympics themed lesson plans, and the recording of the official Winter Olympics theme song. The CI at Bangor is recording a song with the theme of “Sing the same song and join hands for the future”, with Wang Zhijun, a teacher at the CI at Bangor as the director. All teachers at CI at Bangor are actively learning to sing the song and they also invited British students to sing with them.

Confucius Classroom at Euroed Holds Spring Festival Activities
From January 31 to February 4 (local time), the Confucius Classroom at Euroed, managed by the Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest (the CI at Bucharest) co-operated by China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) and the University of Bucharest (UB), organized a series of activities to celebrate the Spring Festival and promote the Chinese culture, including learning Chinese phrases such as “New Year shopping”, “clean the house”, “put up the spring couplets”, “red envelopes”, “reunion dinner”, “watch the Spring Festival gala” and learning Chinese songs such as “Happy New Year” and “Two Tigers”. During the event, the Chinese teachers gave a series of cultural presentations on the Spring Festival. The students actively participated and expressed their strong interest and enthusiasm in learning the Chinese language while learning about traditional Chinese cultural customs.

Jointly Organize Spring Festival Activities
On February 15 (local time), the Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest (the CI at Bucharest), co-operated by China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) and the University of Bucharest (UB), and Bucharest Beirut International School (BBIS) co-hosted Spring Festival activities. The event was held at BBIS, where representatives of volunteers from the CI at Bucharest, teachers and students from all grades of BBIS watched a Spring Festival show. Sally Yassine, BBIS’s Principal firstly congratulated the audience for the Chinese New Year and extended her best wishes to the students in Chinese. Prof. Luminita Balan, Foreign Co-Director of the CI at Bucharest spoke remotely via a recorded video. International Chinese teacher volunteers from the CI at Bucharest Wang Zhaojia, Li Zengtaozi, and Fang Long participated in the show. Wang Zhaojia interacted via a recorded video with the fourth graders of BBIS who performed Chinese character writing on site; Li Zengtaozi performed a Chinese folk dance via online video call; Fang Long and Sally sang Auld Lang Syne on site. The event was successfully concluded in a joyful atmosphere.

CI at Barbados Celebrates Fish & Dragon Festival, Spring Festival
On January 27 (local time), Yan Xiusheng, Chinese Ambassador to Barbados, and Owen Jordan, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados “put the finishing touches” on the Lion Dance, launching a series of cultural activities to celebrate the 2022 Fish and Dragon Festival and the Chinese Spring Festival. The Confucius Institute at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies, Barbados (the CI at Barbados), co-operated by China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) and the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies, designed and launched a video “Cheers - An Introduction to Chinese Wine Culture” featuring two local teachers, which was well received by the local people. Besides, the CI at Barbados, Charles F Broome Memorial Primary School, and Lushan International Experimental Primary School from Changsha, exchanged new year’s wishes through recorded videos. The Fish and Dragon Festival has been held for eight consecutive years. It symbolizes the deepening of China- Barbados friendship and has become a well-known brand to celebrate the Chinese Spring Festival in Barbados and even the Caribbean, and is deeply loved by the local people.

Holds Spring Festival Workshop
On February 2 (local time), teachers from the Confucius Institute at Bangor University (the CI at Bangor), co-operated by China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) and Bangor University, visited the Confucius Classroom at Friars Secondary School, an affiliate of the CI at Bangor, and carried out traditional Chinese cultural activities such as Chinese paper-cutting and face painting as well as Chinese language promotion courses. Wang Yifan introduced Chinese paper-cutting culture and taught students to cut out pentagrams and flowers for window decoration; Yang Mengchun introduced students to Chinese traditional costumes - Hanfu; Zhang Jun gave the first Chinese lesson to students who had never been exposed to Chinese before. The activities enabled students to fully experience traditional Chinese culture, enhanced the influence of the CI at Bangor in the local area, and promoted the Chinese culture.

CI at Bangor Holds Spring Festival Activities
From February 5-6 (local time), the Confucius Institute at Bangor University (the CI at Bangor), co-operated by China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) and Bangor University, held a series of activities with the theme of “Happy New Year with Good luck” at Pontio Cinema of Bangor University to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Lina Davitt, British Co-Director of the CI at Bangor gave a speech and extended her new year wishes to the audience on behalf of the CI at Bangor. The first day was spent watching the Chinese movie “The Battle at Lake Changjin”, which tells a dramatic history. The second day’s activities comprised three sections: a cultural lecture on the stage play “Song of Mulan”, a performance of the stage play, and an action film “Vanguard” starring Jackie Chan. The innovative and informative activities were prepared by the CI at Bangor for several months, involving films, stage plays, cultural lectures, etc., attracting hundreds of participants.

CI at Bangor Holds 2022 Lantern Festival Symposium
On February 15 (local time), the Confucius Institute at Bangor University (the CI at Bangor), co-operated by China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) and Bangor University, held the 2022 Lantern Festival Symposium. The meeting was attended by Lina Davitt, British Co-Director of the CI at Bangor, Fu Yao, Chinese Co-Director of the CI at Bangor, Isabel, British secretary of the CI at Bangor, Chinese teachers Wang Zhijun, Yu Kewen, and Lu Shan, overseas volunteer Annie, and volunteer teachers Zhang Jun, Yang Mengchun, Wang Yifan, and Yin Jiexin, where they celebrated the Lantern Festival, reviewed their achievements, and looked forward to the future.
