Chinese Teachers from the Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest Participated in Seminar on the Standard for Chinese Proficiency in International Chinese Language Education

On January 9, 2022, Cao Ruihong, a Chinese teacher of the Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest (the CI at UB) in Romania, co-sponsored by China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) and UB, participated in the Seminar on the Standard for Chinese Proficiency in International Chinese Language Education (hereinafter referred to as "the Standard"), and presented on the Country-specific Research on Chinese Teaching Syllabus in Romania.

Guided by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of Ministry of Education and the International Society for Chinese Language Teaching, sponsored by Hankao International Education Technology (Beijing) and School of International Chinese Studies at East China Normal University, and supported by Beijing Language and Culture University Press, the seminar focused on the application and future of the Standard. 249 experts and scholars from the field of international Chinese education attended the event, among them 150 submitted abstracts. The participants had a heated discussion on the matter of the application and promotion of the Standard.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Prof. Li Li and Prof. Luminița Bălan, Chinese and Romanian Co-Director of the CI at UB respectively, decided to shift the focus of work from large-scale cultural activities to research-boosted local Chinese education. In 2020, the CI won the bid for one key project, one entrusted project and one youth project approved and sponsored by the Center for International Chinese Education and with these fundings, the CI carried out a comprehensive study on local Chinese education in Romania.

Last December, at the Week of International Chinese Language Exchange, Prof. Li Li, Prof. Luminița Bălan, and Cao Ruihong, delivered four presentations on topics, including Research on the Status Quo and Development Approaches of Chinese Language Education in Romanian Universities and Colleges, Research on the Status Quo and Development Approaches of Chinese Language Education in Romania, Research on the Reflections and Promotion of Romanian Foreign Language Teaching Policy on Chinese Education in Local Primary and Secondary Schools, and Measures for Digitized R&D of Local Chinese Textbooks in Romanian Primary and Secondary Schools: Analysis based on SWOT Model. These studies focus on the overall situations of Chinese language education in Romanian, including textbooks, education policy and so on, which provided the feasible approaches and suggestion for further development of Chinese education in Romanian.
